The only way to categorize posts in Blogger is to use labels. If want to hide some particular labels from the Label Gadget, you can easily do that. If you want to hide some particular labels from the post footer, you can do that using some nested conditional tags.

(I posted this a minute before in the wrong place -- please do not shoot me.)

I know that blogspot uses labels and I think we all use categories for topics, names, keywords, etc.

What I am looking for is an additional label column in order to separate the names of authors I posted articles from because I do not want those authors' names to be in the standard label thing. (I think WP has a solution for this with categories and tags which make it possible to use one thing for one thing and the other thing for the other thing <img src="http://forums.bloggerplugins.org/my-plugins/bb-smilies/default/icon_smile.gif" title=":)" class="bb_smilies" />

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

How do I replace the existing DOCTYPE on my blog to HTML 5? While validating the template I noticed a lot of errors.

I tried replacing the original code with the following -

<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML<span style=""> </span>1.0 Transitional//EN"<span style=""> </span>"http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">

But I'm getting this error -

Your template could not be parsed as it is not well-formed. Please make sure that all XML elements are closed properly.
XML error message: An invalid XML character (Unicode: 0x3c) was found in the public identifier.

Error 500.

What's wrong with the code, any fix?

This blog had the following very useful tweak for the template - "Optimise Blog Title for Search engine Results and increase visitors"
at the following URL
http://www.bloggerplugins.org/2007/09/optimise-blog-title-for-search-engine.html
The above don't work with Blogger template designer new templates. Any updates to make it work?

I would suggest you to use h1 on the post pages and h2 on the index type pages. Blog title should have h1 on index pages, and shouldn't be a heading on post pages. The sidebar titles also should be given lesser importance.

the most important title on the page should be given on the h1 tag. On the home page, this would be the Blog's Title.

But yes on the post pages you can give the h1 tag to the the post title and reduce the importance of the Blog Title. You can do that using conditional tags.

As you already know the default heading convention used in Blogspot Templates is weird.

I am currently using the h1 tag for the post titles on my blog but I wonder why all Blogger blogs use the h3 tag for the title. In some cases I've observed blogs using the h2 tag for eg. - Bloggerplugins.

All WordPress blogs use the h1 tag for the post title and I've read that the h1 should be used instead of any other tag for better SEO.

I want to know which tag should I use for the post title? h1 or h2? And if h2, please answer why.

For over a week now I cannot get any answers for this simple problem. Well I think it is a simple problem. I am trying to place a banner ad into my blog just above the header, the code is provided by FoodieBlogroll, I have just become a publisher and wish to place their banner ad in my blog. I am NOT using Ad Sense or any others just Foodieblogroll. The code Foodieblogroll wants me to look for DOESN'T EXIST. It is <div id='main-wrapper'>, why can I not find this code I have tried everything I know. I clicked on "expand widget" and not "expand widgets" I have used the "search" function. I am well beyond frustrated. Things like this always has a simple solution it is usually right in front of me, but I am not a programmer. I understand that other have done this but know one wants to answer my question

Hi,

I have done the thing which I wanted, I bought hosting and then set the DNS settings as shown in the image:

and then asked the support that how I set it up, did I do it correct or wrong they said you did it ok..
I just want to ask you that why my website's homepage is not working and appearing an error on the homepage whereas the other pages are OK you may check the following post
http://www.kforknowledge.com/2011/06/my-favorite-book.html
I know that it will work while the homepage (Website)

First remove the iFrame Version of the Facebook Like Box which you have on your Blog's Sidebar. Add the FBML version of the same by following this tutorial.

Facebook Fan Box for Blogger

Now add the Facebook like button by referring this Tutorial.

Facebook Like Button For Blogger

Different versions of FB plugins on the same page would lead to errors causing one of them to not work. That's the reason why i asked you to remove the current like box.

If you think that these tutorials were helpful, do share them :P..
and if you have any questions do ask <img src="http://forums.bloggerplugins.org/my-plugins/bb-smilies/default/icon_smile.gif" title=":-)" class="bb_smilies" />

thanks for the reply. But it's still not working.

I even tried to write the following code in the "edit html" tab:

<span id="spanID" onclick="alert('yes');">
hello world
</span>

I clicked on the compose tab and again on the edit html tab and the script event just deleted! the code which left was:

<span id="spanID">
hello world
</span>

why is it deleting my code?

hmmm it's difficult to maintain Alexa Rankings(you might get that back as well). You can gain back the PR and backlinks provided you keep both the domains.

You will have to switch to the new Domain, and then redirect all pages on your old domain to the corresponding pages on the new domain. This means you will have to self host your old domain on some web hosting account to do the one on one redirect. You are most likely to get back the PR on the next PR update(provided you do one on one 301 redirects). In webmaster tools there is option to notify Google Of Site Change.You will essentially have to maintain both of the domains and hosting is going to cost you money <img src="http://forums.bloggerplugins.org/my-plugins/bb-smilies/default/icon_smile.gif" title=":-)" class="bb_smilies" />
